A Cozy Retreat in Beloit
Beloit is a fantastic starting point for our fall adventure. Located just 90 minutes from Chicago, it’s an easily accessible getaway for a quick escape. The quaint downtown area features unique shops and iconic cafes. Here, you can sip on pumpkin spice lattes or Americanos at Blue Collar Coffee Co. while enjoying some shopping along the scenic Riverwalk.

If you love shopping, Beloit has plenty to offer. We especially enjoyed our stay at Hotel Goodwin, perfectly located in the heart of downtown with a rooftop bar. Don’t miss the Ironworks Hotel as well; both are great boutique hotels to stay and enjoy a drink or dinner.
Be sure to check out the Beloit Farmers’ Market every Saturday May-October, which continues indoors November-April. G5 Brewing Company is a must-visit for craft beer enthusiasts! We ordered their craft flights and one of the best cheeseburgers in Beloit—definitely a highlight of our trip.

Scenic Adventures in La Crosse
Just a short drive away—only 3 to 4 hours from Chicago—lies the charming La Crosse Region, nestled between ancient bluffs and along the Mississippi River. The breathtaking views from Grandad Bluff are a must-see, providing a great hike to enjoy the fall foliage while catching up with friends. We also walked around Riverside Park and it was perfect for a leisurely stroll. Also, don’t miss the chance to enjoy a scenic ride on the La Crosse Queen paddleboat.

For accommodations, consider staying at the Charmant Hotel for a delightful, boutique experience and a fantastic rooftop bar! We loved going up to the rooftop for a specialty cocktail and taking in the LaCrosse views at night. We stayed at Home2 Suites and loved the proximity to all the great restaurants and activities. La Crosse’s vibrant downtown features cozy restaurants like the iconic Digger’s Sting Restaurant, where you can indulge in hearty seasonal dishes. We also experienced 608 Brewing Company and ordered a Hazy IPA called Citranado…our favorite! They have a great selection of craft beers. The laid-back vibe is perfect for unwinding and enjoying quality time together without the distractions of everyday life. If you love vintage shopping, you’re in luck—La Crosse has fantastic vintage shops that are a must-visit, like The Antique Center of La Crosse. I bought a few pieces of jewelry that I have been wearing nonstop. So, stop here if you like finding vintage treasures!
